Zone description : The airspace above Sonic’s world, the Sky Chase Zone is not quite a place, but rather a description of the situation. The Sky Chase Zone can be anywhere in the airspace, but is the area immediately around Dr. Robotnik’s giant mobile flying base. Blue skies, a white sheet of clouds, and hundreds of hostile robots are what will greet the heroes here as they seek to chase the villain in the Tornado plane. It was on the Sky Chase Zone that players could see the Tornado in action for the first time.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992)

The supersonic hero Sonic the Hedgehog arrives on his new plane, the Tornado, on West Side Island, where he meets his new friend Miles “Tails” Prower, a little fox who is interested in the plane. Despite his shyness, Tails loves to fix and build machines, so he is immediately interested in the Tornado. Thanks to that, Sonic and Tails begin a friendship on this basis. Soon, the evil Dr. Robotnik arrives on West Side Island and kidnaps the animals, putting them in robots to find the Chaos Emeralds and build his ultimate weapon – the space station Death Egg. Sonic, this time with the help of Tails, once again faces the villain in battle.

After destroying Dr. Robotnik’s main base on West Side Island in the Metropolis Zone, the villain activates a huge aircraft and flees the scene into the sky over the island. Tails modifies the Tornado and together with Sonic they go in pursuit of the villain. Using the plane as a platform, Sonic breaks through Robotnik’s protective wall of robots and Tails directs the plane straight at the villain’s vessel. However, despite the heroes’ best efforts, the prototype of the Death Egg station was already in space, so Sonic had to follow the villain all the way into space. Sonic gets on the unfinished Death Egg, where the hero fights the doctor’s new robot Mecha Sonic as well as Death Egg Bot. After defeating Robotnik and escaping from the Death Egg, Sonic returns to Tails and his animal friends using his Super Sonic form, which he obtained thanks to seven Chaos Emeralds collected earlier.

Sonic Adventure (1998)

The much-grown Sonic faces a new threat: the mighty Chaos monster. Dr. Robotnik frees this monster from Master Emerald with the hope that Chaos will help him build his empire. Chaos can absorb Chaos Emeralds and become stronger, so Sonic teamed up with Tails and after giving Robotnik the nickname Eggman, sets out in search of Emeralds. In the process, the heroes are contacted by a mysterious red spirit, apparently trying to help in the fight against Chaos.

Dr. Eggman, in the name of fulfilling the plan, builds a huge airship, the Egg Carrier, as well as a fleet of flying robots. Sonic and Tails use the Tornado to chase the Egg Carrier, but the Doctor ship’s weapons are too strong and Tornado crashes. Using the power of the Chaos Emerald, Tails manages to modify and repair the Tornado overnight. The greatly enhanced plane under Tails’ control proves mobile and destructive enough to disarm the Egg Carrier’s weapons and deliver Sonic and Tails to the enemy ship.

In the end, Chaos manages to absorb all the Chaos Emeralds and becomes Perfect Chaos, flooding all of Station Square. The red spirit that has been with the heroes all along materializes next to Sonic, turning out to be a girl who lived many years ago named Tikal. Tikal was a friend of Chaos, but she saw no other way but to re-seal Chaos into Master Emerald forever. Sonic flatly refuses this option and believes that this approach won’t solve the problem because Chaos’s hatred won’t go anywhere. By using the positive power of the Chaos Emeralds Sonic becomes Super Sonic and defeats Perfect Chaos in battle. The weakened Chaos speaks to Tikal, and she manages to extinguish the pain and rage of the distraught monster. After thanking the heroes, Tikal and Chaos return to Master Emerald and Sonic doesn’t stop on his adventure.
