Heavy and Bomb are Dr. Robotnik’s mysterious mechanics who defected and joined with Knuckles and the Chaotix to fight their creator. It is still not known why they decided to betray their creator and defect to the side of the heroes, but there is a theory that they were deliberately sent to the heroes by Robotnik to slow them down and spy on them.
Anyway, after defeating Robotnik in Knuckles’ Chaotix (1995), Heavy and Bomb disappeared and were never heard from again.

Heavy:

Heavy can destroy any opponent with just one touch, but he gets in the way and delays his partner just because of his heavy weight.
Bomb can create a terrifying explosion that destroys any opponent, however, he is quite slow and weak.

Knuckles’ Chaotix (1995)
Heavy and Bomb were mechanics of Robotnik and decided to instead join the heroes in opposition to their creator. For their disobedience, they were captured by Robotnik into Combi Catcher, when the doctor was on the way of completing his plan by capturing Newtrogic High Zone and powering up his robots with Dark Rings. Heavy & Bomb was released by Knuckles the Echidna and Espio the Chameleon. Along with them and other friends such as Vector the Crocodile, Mighty the Armadillo, Charmy Bee, Heavy & Bomb making a number of attacks on Robotnik’s bases, causing this to provoke Robotnik into using his strongest robot – Metal Sonic, (who is now powered by the Dark Ring and took the form of Metal Sonic Kai). Fortunately, Metal Sonic and Robotnik were defeated by Heavy, Bomb and the team at the end.
