Personality & More

Eggman is a cruel, narcissistic, cunning, and very evil genius who wants to take over the world to build his own Eggman Empire. He never does anything without evil thoughts in mind and is always willing to take what he needs with power.

His narcissism is the connecting link to all his actions. He thinks that he deserves to be the greatest ruler of the world and anyone must give up to his robotic power.

Dr. Robotnik always uses his robots to carry out schemes. His army includes robots as well as battleships, deadly turrets, and traps. The Doctor is very vengeful, which is another motivation for his actions. He wants to destroy Sonic, who is always able to stop his plans. The cunning and deceitful nature of the Doctor manifests itself through his manipulation of Knuckles. Eggman always tricks him and convinces him to battle with Sonic.

Eggman has a good (well, not really) side as well. He has no intention or desire to kill people, only enslave or coerce them to work for the Eggman Empire. So, if something threatens humanity’s existence, he will help merely for his own good.

Also, the Doctor has a very interesting relationship with Sonic. Despite the fact that they are officially enemies, the Doctor has repeatedly had the opportunity to finish off the hedgehog, but has not done so. All of the bases and parks built by Eggman were made as if on purpose, so that Sonic would have fun running through them. From all this, Dr. Eggman is not so much a villain, but rather one with a very unusual way of spending his time. He and Sonic are on much more friendly terms than you may have imagined.

Sonic Channel

A selfish, self-serving, self-proclaimed evil genius scientist. He loves mecha more than food. He is an excellent scientist with a high IQ of 300, but he is determined to turn the world into Eggmanland without regard for the inconvenience to others. He is a hard-working man who never gives up. His plans have been thwarted at every moment by Sonic and although he longs to defeat Sonic, deep down he still feels a certain hatred for him.

Special Skills

IQ of 300, ability to survive through contingency plans even in desperate situations, ability to create thousands upon thousands of robots, ships, and other members of a fleet seemingly with no help, any vehicles driving.

Weakness

Eggman never can see the fault in his losses, so he pathologically does not often learn from his mistakes. Eggman will lose his mind at times and will not stop at anything to achieve his goals. He can destroy time itself, his own base, or any environment just to destroy Sonic and company and their efforts. Unfortunately, almost every one of his robots have obvious weak points, which are made on purpose or just happened to be like that as an accident.

Biography & Details

Sonic the Hedgeog (1991)
It all began on South Island, when one day the evil Dr. Robotnik decided to use his genius mind to build his own empire. To do this, he needed to build a powerful space station – the Death Egg. To build such a massive station, he needed powerful energy, namely the power of the Chaos Emeralds, so he creates an army of robots, put animals inside of those robots as a power source and goes in search of the Emeralds. That’s where Sonic the Hedgehog comes in. Using his incredible speed, Sonic rescues the animals from the robots, finds six Chaos Emeralds and defeats Dr. Robotnik. After the battle, the Chaos Emeralds return it’s beauty to the South Island and disappear, scattering across the world.

Sonic CD (1993)
Dr. Robotnik chains up the Little Planet, a mysterious formation inhabited mostly by plants and where time has no power. Using the power of Time Stones, Dr. Robotnik returns to the past of the Little Planet and takes it over. Soon after, Sonic arrives at the Little Planet to stop the villain. He is pursued by Amy Rose, a pink hedgehog who is also a big Sonic fan. Once on the Little Planet, Amy finds Sonic, but he shows no interest in her until she is kidnapped by Robotnik’s powerful new robot, Metal Sonic. Sonic chases his metal replica while also collecting Time Stones and destroying the robot-producing machines of the past. After winning the race against Metal Sonic, Sonic saves Amy from captivity and after defeating Dr. Robotnik, the two leave the mysterious place together and earn the gratitude of the inhabitants of the rescued world.

Sonic the Hedgeog 2 (1992)
Dr. Robotnik arrives on West Side Island and kidnaps the animals again, putting them in robots to find the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic, this time with the help of little genius Miles “Tails” Prower, once again faces the villain in battle. This time, Sonic manages to find all seven Chaos Emeralds and takes the Super Sonic form. In the end, thanks to the help of Tails and the Tornado modification that the little fox manages to make, Sonic gets on Robotnik’s space station, where the hero fights the doctors new robot Mecha Sonic as well as Death Egg Bot. After defeating Robotnik and escaping from the station, Sonic returns to Tails and his animal friends using his Super Sonic form.

Sonic the Hedgeog 3 & Knuckles (1994)
After his defeat, Dr. Robotnik lands on Angel Island, where he finds an energy source even more powerful than the Chaos Emeralds, namely the Master Emerald. However, it was protected by the powerful guardian Knuckles the Echidna. Despite his power however, Knuckles is rather gullible, so Robotnik convinces the echidna that Sonic and Tails are trying to steal the Master Emerald, thus turning Knuckles against the heroes. Soon, Sonic and Tails arrive on Angel Island and are immediately attacked by Knuckles, who takes the Chaos Emeralds from the heroes and hides them around the island. Sonic and Tails pursue Knuckles and Robotnik, recovering the Chaos Emeralds along the way. After destroying the Launch Base, the heroes find a portal to the Master Emerald, which they use to enhance the Chaos Emeralds to Super Emeralds. Using their power, Sonic uses the Hyper Sonic form and Tails uses the Super Tails form. Together the heroes defeat Knuckles, but Robotnik takes advantage of this to steal the Master Emerald. Realizing his mistake, Knuckles helps the heroes to pursue the doctor. Sonic and Tails, in the process defeating another iteration of Metal Sonic – Neo Metal Sonic, make their way to the Death Egg rebuilt with the help of Master Emerald. Facing off in the final battle, Sonic and Tails defeat Great Eggman Robo, but even then Robotnik doesn’t give up and tries to escape in his Death Egg Bot. Sonic, using his Hyper Sonic form, catches up with the villain and defeats him, returning the Master Emerald to it’s rightful place.

Sonic Adventure (1998)
Dr. Robotnik finds a mural depicting an ancient monster named Chaos. From the information he finds, Robotnik learns that Chaos is an ancient god of destruction, capable of absorbing Chaos Emeralds, thereby becoming stronger. After destroying the Master Emerald, where Robotnik knew Chaos was sealed, the Doctor frees the monster and immediately sets it upon Sonic. Sonic defeats the monster, but still sees a problem with its ability to consume Emeralds, so he teams up with Tails and goes in search of Emeralds, giving Robotnik the nickname “Eggman” along the way.  In the end, Chaos manages to absorb all the Chaos Emeralds and becomes Perfect Chaos, flooding all of Station Square and betraying Dr. Robotnik, exploding his floating ship Egg Carrier. But by using the positive power of the Chaos Emeralds Sonic becomes Super Sonic and defeats Perfect Chaos in battle.

Sonic Adventure 2 (2001)
From the diary of his grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik, Dr. Ivo Robotnik, who adopted “Dr. Eggman” as his nickname, learns of the existence of the Battle Ultimate Life Form. According to the diary information, the creature was kept at the GUN base on Prison Island. Eggman bursts into the base, destroying the GUN forces along the way and frees the sleeping Ultimate Life Form using the Chaos Emerald and the password “MARIA”. A black hedgehog, who looks just like Sonic, emerges from the pod. It turns out to be Shadow the Hedgehog, who immediately demonstrates his power by destroying the guarding robot of GUN. Shadow promises to fulfill Eggman’s wish for his release and calls the Doctor to the abandoned Space Colony Ark. Back at his base, Eggman uses the portal to the Ark and speaks to Shadow in the central control room. Shadow tells Doctor about the Eclipse Cannon, a sophisticated weapon contained on the colony capable of destroying planets. To charge the weapon though all 7 Chaos Emeralds are needed. Eggman and Shadow decide to collect the Chaos Emeralds and charge the weapon, but suddenly Rouge the Bat, a mysterious thief who infiltrated the Ark following Eggman, appears in the room. She offers the villains her help and her own Chaos Emerald in exchange for Eggman’s Emerald detector. Shadow and Eggman agree to the deal and so a team of villains is formed.

They already possessed three Emeralds (another was stolen by Shadow). Using her sources of information, Rouge reports that 3 more Chaos Emeralds are protected by GUN on Prison Island. While Eggman distracts the military, Rouge infiltrates the vault and steals the Emeralds while Shadow installs bombs on the island that will blow it all up. Not without problems, however, the plan succeeds and the entire island is destroyed as the villains return to Ark with the three Chaos Emeralds. Using the six Chaos Emeralds, Eggman stages a demonstration, blowing up half the moon and giving humanity an ultimatum to surrender within 24 hours. The last Chaos Emerald is up in the possession of Miles “Tails” Prower, who, along with Sonic, Knuckles and Amy have infiltrated Ark to stop the villains. Eggman takes Amy Rose hostage and uses her to his advantage in order to drop Sonic into outer space. After battling Tails, Eggman obtains the last Chaos Emerald and inserts it into the Eclipse Cannon. Sonic, being thrown in space, survives by using the power of the fake Chaos Emerald and by copying Shadow’s technique, Chaos Control, allows him to teleport back to the colony. There, Sonic rushes to the weapon, but once again encounters Shadow in combat. After the battle, too much time had been lost so with the change of plans, Sonic destroys Eclipse Canon from the outside, preventing the shot. Suddenly, screens are activated showing the execution of Gerald Robotnik. It turns out that this was all Gerald’s plan to avenge his murdered granddaughter Maria, and Shadow only carried out the plan. Using the energy of the Chaos Emeralds, the Space Colony Ark would rush toward Earth at incredible speed, after which it would destroy all life on the planet. Heroes and villains unite to stop the colony from falling, but an Ultimate Life Form prototype, the Biolizard, stands in their way. Suddenly, Shadow, who has regained his memories, rushes to help heroes and villains, taking the battle with Biolizard himself. Taking the form of Super Sonic and Super Shadow, the hedgehogs defeat the monster, but Shadow heroically dies in battle. All heroes bid farewell to Shadow and word of his sacrifice spreads throughout the planet he saved.

Sonic Heroes (2003)
Neo Metal Sonic decides to avenge defeat by Sonic’s hands by capturing the Eggman’s Empire and all its robots, taking doctor himself as a prisoner in a process. The Doctor contacts the detective agency Chaotix, whose members are the agency leader Vector the Crocodile, ninja Espio the Chameleon and Charmy Bee. Eggman commissions the three of them to rescue him without revealing his own identity. Team Chaotix rescues Robotnik from captivity, but Neo Metal Sonic’s plan has already came to fruition.  After copying DNA of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Chaos, and the now returned from the dead Shadow, Metal Sonic becomes the Metal Overlord, a completely invincible and unbeatable monster. Team Dark, Team Chaotix and Team Rose distract the Metal Overlord while Team Sonic are using the Chaos Emeralds to take their Super forms. With the power of the Emeralds, the heroes manage to defeat the monster and things return to normal.

Sonic Battle (2003)
Eggman finds another research project of his grandfather Gerald Robotnik, a powerful robot called the Gizoid. Attempts to activate the Gizoid yielded nothing, so Eggman simply throws the robot away, saving his data in the process. Using this data and the energy of the Chaos Emerald’s shards, he builds the E-121 Phi series of robots. Soon, Eggman learns that Sonic and Tails somehow managed to activate the Gizoid, so the Doctor sends E-121 Phi to return the Gizoid to Eggman. After many skirmishes with Sonic and Emerl (Sonic’s name for the Gizoid) and their friends, all E-121 Phi are destroyed and Emerl absorbs all seven Chaos Emeralds. However, Eggman still hasn’t given up. By using a simple trick, he convinces Emerl that the entire world and its inhabitants have been destroyed, thus driving the robot mad. Emerl goes out of control and triggers the system to destroy the world. Sonic has to fight Emerl and inflict severe damage on the robot. Emerl, defeated, says goodbye to Sonic and explodes. It turns out that Dr. Gerald Robotnik has embedded a program in Emerl that will explode him if he tries to destroy the planet. The heroes grieve for Emerl and say goodbye to him, but they still believe that Emerl lives in the shards of the Chaos Emeralds. Perhaps when all the wars and conflicts in the world are over, Emerl will return to his friends.

Sonic Advance 3 (2004)
Eggman creates a new robot named Gemerl. Gemerl was created based on a Gizoid, so he’s also able to copy the fighting abilities of other fighters. Unlike his original, Gemerl was loyal to his creator and stood with him against Sonic and other heroes. In the final battle, after losing against the heroes, Eggman and Gemerl began to retreat, but suddenly Gemerl disobeyed the doctor, attacked Sonic, grabbed 7 Chaos Emeralds and took his final form, Ultimate G-merl, wrecking havoc everywhere. Sonic uses the power of the Chaos Emeralds to obtain his Super form and joins forces with Eggman, who wishes to stop the machine that betrayed him, defeating the Ultimate G-merl.

Sonic Rivals (2006)
A mysterious alien from the future named Eggman Nega arrives in Sonic’s world with a special powerful artefact in the form of a camera capable of turning objects and even living creatures into cards. Using this camera, Eggman Nega captures Eggman himself into a card. Soon, Eggman finds himself rescued from the card by Shadow. Shadow, Eggman, and Silver the Hedgehog, another alien from the future who wants to stop Eggman Nega, unite and pursue the villain, eventually defeating him and returning all objects transformed into cards to their original form.

Sonic Rivals 2 (2007)
Eggman Nega again invades Sonic’s world with another villainous plan. He wants to open a portal into the dimension of the powerful Ifrit monster and feed the monster with live Chao to release it into the world. From Gerald Robotnik’s diary Eggman learns that 7 Chaos Emeralds are needed to open the portal, so Eggman sends Metal Sonic to Shadow and asks him for help in finding the Emeralds. Together, Shadow and Metal Sonic, with Eggman’s support, stop Eggman Nega and Ifrit.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (2008)
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy supported by GUN forces storm Eggman’s fortress and seemingly kill the evil doctor. However, Dr. Robotnik keeps himself alive thanks to one of the medical robots and escapes for almost half of the year. After this time, the world was invaded by mysterious warriors, immediately nicknamed Marauders. They turned on Eggman’s old robots and used them for their own purposes, causing the heroes, led by Sonic, to go after Eggman himself. The Doctor convinced the heroes that he had given up on villainy and offered to help fight the Marauders. It turns out that the Marauders are an ancient, high-tech echidna clan exiled to another world called Nocturnus. They stole the Master Emerald and the Chaos Emeralds in order to use jewels power to open a portal back to the world, then take it over. The heroes decided to pursue Nocturnus, but to do so they needed to build a reliable ship. This was done by Eggman and Tails, who built a partnership and, in the process of their adventures together, became somewhat friendly – Tails regarded Eggman as a senior comrade and greatly respected his scientific abilities, while the Doctor himself never failed to marvel at the fox’s resourcefulness. Dr. Robotnik stayed in Sonic’s world, arguing that he had to prepare the return of the heroes, while the heroes themselves went to Nocturne. On their return, however, they were in for a surprise – a huge, hostile robotic army of Eggman, built by the Doctor while the heroes were away.

Sonic Unleashed (2008)
While having another Sonic vs. Eggman battle, Sonic uses a Super Sonic form and destroys the doctor’s fleet. However, Eggman uses a pre-made trap and catches Super Sonic. Using the energy of the 7 Chaos Emeralds, Eggman shoots an energy beam into the Earth, thereby awakening the ancient Dark Gaia monster and splitting the Earth into 7 pieces (as well as stripping the Emeralds of all energy). In addition, as a consequence of the cataclysm, at night people became possessed by the spirits of Dark Gaia and went mad. However, on Sonic, it manifested in him to become a Werehog – a monster with long arms. After the shot, Eggman throws the defeated Sonic into space, and starts a plan of charging Dark Gaia with the darkness energy so it could become stronger in order to use it to rule the world. Using special devices, Eggman collected Dark Gaia’s minions in one place, thereby accelerating the ancient god’s growth. Sonic, with the help of Dark Gaia’s eternal adversary, Light Gaia, began returning energy to the Chaos Emeralds, thereby gluing the Earth back together, so Eggman had to hurry with his plan. Luckily for him, just when Sonic and Light Gaia gave the last Emerald’s energy back, Dark Gaia already had the right amount of energy and faced the heroes in battle. Eggman, who tried to command Dark Gaia, was kicked out by the dark deity. Light Gaia summoned the ancient Gaia Temples and using them as a constructor transformed into Gaia Colossus and battled Dark Gaia. However, when it seemed that Gaia Colossus along with Sonic were victorious, Dark Gaia finally reaches full maturity and takes the form of Perfect Dark Gaia. Sonic, using the power of the Chaos Emeralds, takes the form of Super Sonic and defeats the dark deity along with Gaia Colossus. Defeated, Dark Gaia falls back into an ancient sleep, awaiting the time of the next battle between darkness and light.

Sonic Colors (2010)
Dr. Eggman has built an amusement park in space and by using special generators, has hooked the worlds of the race of the Wisps into this park, preventing these worlds from unhooking themselves. Eggman captures the Wisps and places them in special capsules, draining their life energy, called Hyper-go-on, in order to use that energy to seize control of the minds of all living in Sonic’s world. The Wisp that had been sucked out of their energy turned into Nega Wisps, dark versions of themselves, going mad with the pain they felt. Soon, Sonic and Tails enter the park, previously deciding that a park in space built by Eggman is suspicious. While the heroes try to stop the kidnapping of the Wisps, Eggman tests his machine on Tails, successfully subduing the fox’s will, but the machine’s effect lasts only a few seconds. In the end, Sonic shuts down all the generators and fights Eggman in a final battle, allowing Tails to evacuate from the park. Eggman suffered his final defeat in a battle with Sonic. The entire amusement park was destroyed and Dr. Eggman, Orbot and Cubot ended up being lost in space, swept away in an explosion. In the cosmic void, the Doctor and robots stumble upon a godlike creature named Time Eater. Eggman decides to use it to his advantage. Eggman flies off towards the Time Eater, abandoning Orbot and Cubot in space alone.

Sonic Generations (2011)
The Time Eater, being a mindless blob of energy, does not resist and allows Eggman to seize its power. Using the Time Eater’s special abilities, Eggman destroys time itself and many of the world’s inhabitants have been turned into lifeless statues in the white void. However, Sonic somehow (probably with the help of the Chaos Emeralds) managed to avoid being turned into a statue and the blue hedgehog began to move through the void, saving his friends and bringing life back to the dead locations. Dr. Eggman needed help in modifying the Time Eater and needed someone as brilliant as himself to do so, so using the power of the Time Eater, Eggman goes back in time and kidnaps himself from the past, but probably accidentally also moves Sonic and Tails from the past into the white void. Together, Sonic from the past and Sonic from the present collect all 7 Chaos Emeralds and finally meet Dr. Eggman and Dr. Robotnik in battle. The modified Time Eater defeats the Sonics, but their friends support them, which awakens the power of the Chaos Emeralds and the Sonics, transforming into Super Sonics, destroy the Time Eater. The Eggmans, having lost, remained trapped in a white void.

Sonic Lost World (2013)
Somewhere in the world exists Lost Hex, a valley cut off from the rest of the world that does not follow the usual rules of physics and logic. One day, Eggman arrives on Lost Hex and bends the Zeti, evil 6 creatures who are living there to his will with a special artefact called the Cacophonic Conch, which can inflict unimaginable pain to Zeti through its sound. Taking advantage of the Zeti’s abilities and the returned technology of building robots by implanting animals in them, Dr. Eggman quickly takes full control of Lost Hex and builds a special machine that extracts energy from the planet, the Extractor. Soon after another animal abduction, Sonic and Tails arrive on Eggman’s tail, pursuing the evil Doctor to save the innocent animals. Arriving at Lost Hex, Eggman unleashes the Zeti on Sonic, but Sonic overpowers the two of them and at one point knocks the Cacophonic Conch out of Eggman’s hands so that the artefact is out of his reach. Once free, the Zeti use their special abilities and take control of all of Eggman’s machines. Using the Extractor, the Zeti siphon off almost all of the planet’s energy, bringing all life to the brink of extinction. Sonic and Eggman team up to stop the villains and in the end, Sonic defeats all the Zetis in a battle, and then also defeats Eggman, who, of course, betrayed the heroes, after which Tails shuts off the Extractor and restores the planet’s energy.

Sonic Forces (2017)
Eggman finds an artifact called the Phantom Ruby, capable of creating a virtual reality and placing the Doctor’s enemies there. Using his knowledge, Robotnik begins to create prototypes of this artifact, hoping to create the perfect weapon capable of defeating Sonic. One day, the squad of mercenaries named the Jackal Squad attacked one of Eggman’s bases and in the heat of the battle, the squad leader came into contact with one of Eggman’s experimental artifacts. Together, the mercenary leader and the Doctor entered the Ruby’s illusion, showing the world in flames. The Jackal Squad leader hated world stagnation and believed that the best cure for boredom was chaos and destruction. Dr. Eggman liked the mercenary’s vision of the world and hired the Jackal Squad to guard his base. After some time in Sonic Forces: Episode Shadow, Shadow the Hedgehog, completing a mission assigned to him by GUN, attacks Eggman’s base, destroying all the robots in his path as well as all the members of the Jackal Squad. The squad leader, the ultimate mercenary, attempts to ambush Shadow, but is utterly destroyed by the hedgehog. Shadow taunts the loser, calls him “worthless” and demands never to show his pathetic face around Shadow ever again. After that, Shadow destroys the base, even though Eggman with the Phantom Ruby developments manage to escape. The leader of the mercenaries, left without his squad, is still unable to forget his defeat and blatantly breaks out. He hated his own face and put on a mask, gave himself a new name – Infinite and became the object of Eggman’s experiments, learning to control the Phantom Ruby’s incredible power to create Virtual Reality. Using the immeasurable power of Phantom Ruby, Infinite soon defeats Sonic the Hedgehog in battle and the hero ends up being captured by Eggman. With Sonic’s defeat, there is no one left to oppose Eggman and Infinite, and within six months they have taken over 99% of the world. Only faint echoes of The Resistance, led by Knuckles the Echidna, fought the invaders, though unsuccessfully. Soon, The Resistance members discover that Sonic is held on the Death Egg and prepare a rescue operation. The Resistance manages to rescue Sonic from captivity and he joins them. Working together, Sonic and Rookie (one of The Resistance members) defeat Infinite and destroy Eggman’s base, after defeating Eggman himself due to another desperate attempt to oppose the heroes.

Team Sonic Racing (2019)
Dr. Eggman creates another villainous plan. Creating Team Eggman with Metal Sonic and Zavok (leader of the Zeti), Eggman infiltrates the races organized by Dodon Pa, the president of Donpa Motors. Getting close enough, Eggman kidnaps Dodon Pa in order to steal the Ultimate Energy Engine created by the president from the Team Energy he extracts from the races. Eggman manages to use the Engine to create the ultimate machine, the Death Egg. Even with its power and the help of Zavok and Metal Sonic, the villains fail to defeat Sonic (along with the other heroes) and Dodon Pa is rescued from captivity.

Sonic Frontiers (2022)
In another attempt to take over the world, Dr. Eggman decides to take over Cyberspace, built by an Ancient civilization that predates the echidnas. To do so, Eggman creates a perfect artificial intelligence named Sage and gives her human senses. Sage succeeds in penetrating Cyberspace, but in the process, Robotnik himself is dragged into it by the security systems, thus getting trapped inside without a way out. Sage begins searching for ways to save her creator, but it turns out that the Ancients sealed an ancient evil in Cyberspace that destroyed their civilization, and it was impossible to release anyone from Cyberspace without releasing the evil. In the process of his imprisonment, Eggman becomes proud of Sage and develops fatherly feelings for her. Soon, Sonic, Amy, Knuckles and Tails are also trapped in Cyberspace, but Sonic miraculously manages to escape the trap on his own. Sonic begins searching for ways to release his friends from Cyberspace, thus endangering the entire world. Sage tries to stop Sonic, but he manages to break the cage of Cyberspace and, as a result, all those trapped inside, including the ancient evil and Eggman himself, are released. Eggman and Sonic have to team up to find the Chaos Emeralds on Ouranos Island, so Sonic and Sage scour the entire island. Finally, having collected all the Chaos Emeralds with Eggman and Sage’s help, Super Sonic faces off against the Titan named Supreme, in which the evil entity has been sealed. Super Sonic defeats Supreme, but the evil entity moves into the Moon and uses it as it’s temporary body. Sage takes control of Supreme and joins Super Sonic in attacking the Moon. Super Sonic and Sage succeed in destroying the Moon along with the evil sealed within it, but in the process Sage has to sacrifice her life. Eggman’s heart is broken and he is badly traumatized by Sage’s death. However, he soon manages to restore her code at his base and Sage is alive again.
