Commander

Before the events of the games…
As a young child, the future Commander lived on the Space Colony Ark, where research that was too dangerous to be conducted on Earth was conducted. The research was led by Professor Gerald Robotnik, whose goal was to create the Ultimate Life Form, an immortal being strong enough to protect the planet from all dangers. While researching immortality, Gerald Robotnik hoped to find a way to extend the life of his terminally ill granddaughter named Maria Robotnik, who lived with him on Ark. The little boy and Maria quickly became friends, and to him Maria became practically a sister.

One day, while playing with Maria, the boy wandered into the room where Gerald’s project was taking place. There the boy saw something he will remember for the rest of his life – the process of creating the Ultimate Life Form. Gerald, along with some absolutely monstrous creature, were releasing him – Shadow the Hedgehog, the result of the project – from the capsule together. The boy decided that Gerald was at one with this monster.

Soon, the government decided that the projects conducted on the colony were too dangerous and sent a raid on it. The soldiers closed down the colony, archived the projects and killed many of the researchers (along with Maria), the future Commander’s fate during the raid and afterwards is unknown.

Sonic Adventure 2 (2001)
Fifty years later, the former child, already a grown-up soldier already held the position of GUN Commander. GUN was actively involved in the war with Eggman, who freed Shadow from the imprisonment GUN produced after the closure of the Colony. In the process, it is revealed that all along Gerald Robotnik had been hatching a plan to destroy humanity and carried it out after his death. Even though his plan was stopped thanks to Shadow and Sonic the Hedgehog, this incident further assured the Commander that Gerald was the absolute evil.

Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)
Earth was attacked by an alien race of Black Arms, led by that same monster from the Commander’s childhood, Black Doom and GUN engaged in a terrible war with the aliens. During the course of the war, it was noticed that Shadow was actively participating in this war and was often seen in the company of aliens, so the Commander, remembering the events on Ark, wishing to avenge Maria, immediately gave the order to destroy Shadow. However, the GUN were unable to withstand the war and the Black Arms accomplished what they had planned – they teleported their home, the Black Comet directly to Earth, thus beginning its absorption. However, suddenly, all the screens of the world began to show a message left by Gerald Robotnik for Shadow. In it, Gerald informs that Shadow was created to protect humanity and he must destroy the Black Comet. To do so, Shadow must use the Eclipse Cannon on Colony Ark. Shadow, taking his Super form, defeats Black Doom and destroys the Black Comet. After Gerald’s message, the Commander realized he had been wrong all his life and forgave both Shadow and Gerald.

After the events of Shadow the Hedgehog (2005), the Commander himself suggested that Shadow join GUN and Shadow agreed. Along with Shadow, his friends Rouge the Bat and E-123 Omega also joined the organization. In the future, under the leadership of the Commander, GUN will repeatedly contribute to the salvation of humanity from a variety of threats.
