The Doomsday Zone represents not so much a specific place as the time and circumstance of a great battle. Sonic and Tails, with the help of Knuckles, get to Death Egg and defeat Robotnik, but the villain escapes with the Master Emerald into outer space in his new machine, the Final Weapon. Sonic, using seven Super Emeralds, transforms into Hyper Sonic and pursues the villain. The location of their battle in outer space is called The Doomsday Zone.
Above the soaring in the sky Angel Island is the flying even higher Sky Sanctuary Zone, which is a complex of ancient ruins and bridges flying in the air. Here are ancient dilapidated temples and buildings, reminiscent of the forgotten echidna civilization. Strange mechanisms and portals reminds of an advanced ancient civilization and bring mysticism around this place.
A mysterious hidden vault somewhere on Angel Island, the Hidden Palace Zone is the remains of a city of an ancient civilization once located on this land. It holds the most powerful artifact of all, the Master Emerald, guarded by the faithful guardian Knuckles the Echidna. The Hidden Palace Zone holds many secrets and mysteries, its walls covered with strange frescoes which images resemble events of today, and strange mechanisms that seem to have come from another world.
Located somewhere in the depths of Angel Island, the Lava Reef Zone is a system of deep lava-flooded tunnels. It is here that the passage to the Hidden Palace Zone, the sacred altar where the most powerful artifact, the Master Emerald, is kept. Gradually, the lava rivers that illuminate the darkness of the caves are replaced by a crystalline encircling tunnels, illuminating the darkness with their blue glow. The depths of the Lava Reef Zone are mystical. They contain unknown ancient mechanisms from far times.
An incredibly hot, deadly desert located somewhere on Angel Island, the Sandopolis Zone is one of the most dangerous places on the mysterious island. In the middle of Sandopolis Zone is a pyramid hidden in the sands, filled with riddles, darkness, ancient mechanisms and evil ghosts.
Dr. Robotnik’s enormous flying fortress, designed to carry a huge number of robots and kidnapped animals, Flying Battery Zone is a giant flying hunk of metal filled with traps, hostile robots, and strange mechanisms. The entire Flying Battery Zone is filled with rotating elements that propel the ship’s giant engines. The ship is filled with many hidden passages and corridors, outer bridges and inner rooms, and consists of many different sections.

A highly unusual forest somewhere in the middle of Angel Island, the Mushroom Hill Zone has huge mushrooms instead of trees. The very unusual ecology of this place is a bit like a jungle in the way of vegetation – the occasional traveler can easily get lost in the thicket and never find his way out. However, giant mushrooms, roots curling into loops and changing season in the middle of the forest very soon demonstrate all the strangeness and unpredictability of this place.
Dr. Robotnik’s main base on Angel Island, it is here, on the Launch Base Zone that the villain has set up a command center to control the capture of the island. It was from the Launch Base Zone that the new Death Egg station was planned to be launched, which was, fortunately for everyone, successfully disrupted by Sonic and Tails. Filled with hostile robots, various traps, flooded sections and a maze of pipes, elevators and strange mechanisms, the Launch Base Zone is one of the most dangerous places set up by Robotnik on Angel Island.
A huge mountain at the very top of Angel Island, the Ice Cap Zone is one of the coldest places in the world, full of snow, ice and frozen caves. Incredible snow slopes are like made for snowboarding, ice tunnels of astonishing size, cold water of mountain rivers, and deadly falling icicles and ice platforms are what awaits the casual traveler in the Ice Cap Zone.
